Setup
Same six prompts, generated in each model at the model's native "best" settings. No cherry-picking; first output only.
Prompts tested
- "A photorealistic portrait of an elderly woman with silver hair, warm window light, 85mm f/1.4"
- "An anime-style character wearing a red kimono standing in a bamboo forest"
- "A minimalist product shot of a matte black watch on a marble surface"
- "A cyberpunk cityscape at night with neon signs and rain-slicked streets"
- "A logo for a coffee shop called 'BRISTLE' in bold sans-serif with a bristle brush icon"
- "A vintage 1950s diner scene with a red booth and chrome details"
Results, briefly
- Portrait โ MJ warmer and more cinematic; Flux more anatomically accurate. Tie.
- Anime โ MJ dramatically better. MJ wins.
- Product โ Flux cleaner and more controllable. Flux wins.
- Cityscape โ MJ more atmospheric. MJ wins.
- Logo with text โ Flux renders "BRISTLE" perfectly readable. MJ mangles it. Flux wins hard.
- Vintage scene โ Both great, MJ slightly more period-accurate. MJ wins.
Score: MJ 3, Flux 2, tie 1.
The honest take
Midjourney is the aesthetic king. Flux is the workhorse โ better for text, better for control, better for API workflows, better when you need something specifically what you asked for rather than something beautifully interpreted.
When to pick each
- Pick Midjourney when you want a jaw-dropping image and don't care exactly what's in it.
- Pick Flux Pro when you need what you asked for, in your workflow, integrated with your product.
Imagoat exposes Flux Pro at 5 credits per image โ the API cost passed through with a modest markup. Bring your own Midjourney subscription if you also want MJ.
